MacOS Web Desktop

- +macOS-inspired desktop environment, fully usable in the browser
- +Simulated apps, windows, files and messaging
- +Modular architecture adaptable to other scenarios
- +State management for the apps and the window system
This project was originally developed as the interactive interface for a scientific escape game created for a lab retreat at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Dresden.
The goal was to create an immersive digital environment that would simulate a real computer desktop. Instead of solving puzzles on paper, participants interact with a fake operating system directly in the browser, exploring files, messages, notes and applications to uncover clues.
To support this concept, I built a web-based desktop environment inspired by macOS. It recreates many familiar elements of a real computer interface, including windows, applications, navigation, and system interactions. The idea was to reproduce the experience of using an actual workstation in order to increase immersion during the escape game.
Although it was initially designed for a specific event, the project was intentionally developed as a reusable and extensible foundation. The system can easily be adapted to different scenarios, stories, or puzzles by modifying the available applications and content.
This makes it a flexible base for creating interactive storytelling experiences, educational simulations, or future escape games entirely in the browser.
